Grant Applications for 2012

GRANT APPLICATION FOCUS:
The Otsego County Youth Advisory Committee announces the availability of grant funds to help support projects focusing on positive opportunities for youth development throughout Otsego County. They can choose to grant all or part of their funds, and also choose to fund all or part of a program.
The Youth Advisory Committee is looking for projects that will enhance the lives of the youth throughout Otsego County. Examples of appropriate grant projects include, but are not limited to:
- Programs that provide youth with caring support services.
- Education, cultural and/or recreational activities that encourage youth to expand horizons.
- Projects that make meaningful connections for youth to their community.
GRANT REQUIREMENTS:
In order to be considered for a grant:
- You must qualify as a nonprofit organization exempt form federal taxation under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, a school based program, or municipality or other government unit.
- Your project must serve citizens of Otsego County.
The Program submitted must include:
- Recipients ranging from 5-18 years of age playing useful roles in the design and implementation of the project.
- Letters of recommendation from one youth and one member of the community supporting the project.
- All eight (8) points listed on the Grant Application Form Completed.
Things that Grant Money CANNOT support:
- Salaries for employees
- Reimbursement for prior expenses
- Cost for fundraising projects
- Scholarships and grants for individuals
- Costs for capital building projects or office equipment
- Political campaigns or attempts to influence legislation or promote the teaching of a particular church or denomination
- Funding for t-shirts or other clothing items
- Funding for trophies and other prizes.
GRANT SUGGESTIONS
Priority will be given to programs that include one or more of the following criteria:
- Build positive developmental opportunities for youth
- Make use of volunteers
- Include a diverse population
- A new and innovative program and/or expansion of already existing successful program
- Bring matching funds and/or in-kind resources to the project
- Have a positive affect on a greater number of youth
- Special consideration will be given to projects or programs that address student motivations, academic and social stress and alcohol and drug abuse.
NEWS RELEASE COPY
If you are awarded a Y.A.C. grant and promote or agree to a news release or story about your project, you must include that the project was funded, all or in part, by a grant from the Otsego County Community Foundation Youth Advisory Committee grant.
PROJECT OUTCOME SUMMARY
If you are awarded a Y.A.C. Grant, a follow-up report based on the outcomes of the project must be submitted within one month of the project completion. This report must include how the money was spent and how successful the program was. Any unspent money must also be returned to the Youth Advisory Council at that time.
REVIEW PROCESS
Not everyone who applies can receive a grant. Your application will be reviewed by the Youth Advisory Committee (Y.A.C.), which is made up of young people, with an adult advisor. You may be requested to present your proposal before the Y.AC. grant committee. Y.A.C. members choose the project ideas they think will work best and that help youth of Otsego County the most. Y.A.C. will then recommend those proposals to the Otsego County Community Foundation Board of Directors, which will make the final decision. EACH APPLICATION WILL BE READ AND REVIEWED BY Y.A.C. MEMBERS.
HOW TO APPLY:
- Complete the grant application form and points 1 through 8.
- Submit 1 copy, and 1 original of grant application. Applications will NOT be considered if this requirement is not met.
