Alpine Regional Tennis Association

Mission: The Alpine Regional Tennis Association will foster interest and skill development for the life long sport of tennis for people of all ages in Northern Michigan

Grant impact: Four adjacent tennis courts would allow us to host Tournaments that would bring in business to local hotels, restaurants, grocery stores and shopping. It would be another option for exercise for all ages of our local community. It is an inexpensive sport that would be affordable to all.

White Stone Project, Inc (DBA Big Ticket Festival)

Mission: To gather the tribes (connecting churches, families and friends) to bring Glory to God (worship and see hearts changed).

Grant impact: Big Ticket Country Faith Night, being held June 22nd at the Otsego County Fairgrounds, will be addressing the subject of mental health and suicide. Big Ticket has a platform for a community night with a Veteran ( active duty) Military Tribute night built in with many of our Military invited to attend. The Big Ticket Country Faith Night will have an attendance of over 5000. Big Ticket will use funds towards 100 Military and Military family members to attend Country Faith Night and to enhance our program with speakers and presentations

Children’s Bereavement Network

Mission: The Children’s Bereavement Network will provide a relaxed and safe setting for campers to explore their feelings and offer hope to children who have experienced a loss through death.

Grant impact: The grant would be used to help grieving children and teens from our area find hope and healing. In a unique environment, structured with healing circles, therapeutic crafts and activities they explore the benefits of sharing their losses while finding hope.

Community Mediation Services

Mission: To assist people in resolving their disputes in a confidential, affordable and peaceful manner, by providing trained volunteer mediators in a neutral setting.

Grant impact: The impact could be tremendous, a training could be held to train more individuals in conflict management, communication tools and or in training more volunteers to help individuals in the community. This organization can build a better tomorrow for our neighbors with this money.

Gaylord Area Council for the Arts

Mission: To nurture and promote a creative community by facilitating, sharing and encouraging individual expression though the Arts

Grant impact: This would improve the quality of theatrical entertainment for Otsego County and the surrounding areas.

Gaylord Community Productions

Mission: To provide an opportunity for community learning and interaction with individuals regarding all facets of a community theatrical production. To build basic character from dedicated directors molding participants for their future lives.

Grant impact: This would improve the quality of theatrical entertainment for Otsego County and the surrounding areas.

Guardian Gals, Inc.

Mission: Throughout the organization, Guardian Gal members mutually empower & inspire one another to initiate personal, philanthropic, & civic action for the common good.

Grant impact: If Guardian Gals, Inc. receives this grant, we would use it entirely to fully sponsor the complete registration fee for 50 adolescent girls to participate in Summer 2017 Guardian Gals, Inc. programming & we would design an entire recruitment campaign around this opportunity afforded to us by “OCCF’s 100 Women Who Care!”

Huron Pines

Mission: To protect the Great Lakes by conserving the forest, lakes and streams of Notheast Michigan

Grant Impact: Huron Pines, located in Gaylord, is a non-profit conservation organization with the mission to protect the Great Lakes by improving water quality and wildlife habitat, engaging local communities and promoting conservation stewardship. We have developed a strong partnership with Vanderbilt schools and other community members to develop placed-based education programming for their students. It is a long-term investment into these students with the vision that every grade level engages in experiential learning—a proven technique that increases test scores, self-confidence and further education. Funding from 100 Women Who Care will do directly to programming for students, curriculum for classrooms, materials for projects and training for teachers.

Otsego Conservation District

Mission: Working toward greater harmony with our natural resources.

Grant impact: The Otsego Conservation District operates on a tight budget but still delivers high quality programming. Since the two annual tree sales support the operating budget, all grants that it receives goes towards natural resource education and conservation initiatives. This grant would go a long way towards expanding existing educational programming, especially as the District builds a new outdoor education center in the Demonstration Garden.

Otsego County Child Welfare Alliance

Mission: To educate and provide resources to suport family’s as they raise safe and healthy children in Otsego county.

Grant impact: The perceived impact would be to reach approximately 100 families in Otsego County with infant safe sleep packets, portable cribs and car seats as needed, first aid kits and home safety supplies. And with the funds leftover, we would hope to start a new project for literacy in the community by providing books to area families through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

United Way

Mission: Together, united, we can inspire hope, fund services and create opportunities for a better tomorrow.

Grant Impact: This grant would allow us to 1) leverage more money 2) provide program services surrounding some of the immediate causes that we are working on right now: Suicide Prevention – Alice Advocacy and Community Homelessness Plan.

Otsego County Habitat for Humanity

Mission: Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

Grant Impact: If our organization were to receives this grant, it would help continue our work on building a house for Angela Finnerty, our next partner. Sounds simple but it is complex. To keep the house going is important for not only the partner family, but for our community through contractors, vendors, and our volunteers. We are grateful that our organization can help change lives for the better through employment, purchasing, and even providing meaningful volunteer opportunities. During our last build, we had 146 volunteers work on the house and 47 different contracting companies. We could not touch so many people without the support of our community. Thank you!

VFW Ralph Holewinski Post 1518

Mission: To perpetuate the memory and history of our dead comrades and to assist their widows and orphans. To maintain and extend the institutions of American feedom and to preserve and defend the United States from all enemies. To serve the youth of the Community and to provide service to all veterans.

Grant Impact: This grant would be used towards the construction of the VFW John Facchinetti Pavilion located at the Veterans Community Park, 1905 S. Otsego Ave. in Gaylord. The Pavilion will be available for recreational, social and patriotic events in our Community.

Hospice of Michigan

Mission: Ensure quality of life, comfort, and peace for our patients; provide support for their loved ones during their end-of-life experience. Serve everyone in our communities who needs and seeks our care; strive to improve the state of comfort care.

Grant Impact: Hospice of Michigan (HOM) would use the grant in Otsego County for Grief Support Services. Individual and group grief support is available for children and adults and is available for anyone in the community, not just Hospice of Michigan families. Support groups and counseling is available for adults and children.

Otsego County Literacy Council

Mission: To champion a more literate community in Otsego County by providing creative leadership to new and existing literacy efforts.

Grant Impact: 1000 Books before Kindergarten is an early literacy program that promotes parent engagement by reading aloud at home during early childhood. Research shows that it is the most reliable predictor of school success. Based on positive results in communities across the nation, the Otsego County Literacy Council and the Otsego County Library have developed a pilot program to begin Fall 2017. The program offers a fun, interactive reading plan with a series of achievable goals and incentives. This grant would ensure adequate resources to serve every Otsego County family who wishes to participate.

Toys for Tots Otsego County

Mission: The Mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.

Grant Impact: The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens. With the continued support from our caring and generous community members, we will make a difference in our community and beyond. Our children and families in need will grow in positive ways through our efforts to change a hand out to a hand up.

4 Paw Love

Mission: 4 Paw Love, Inc. helps maintain pet wellness in the community through care, compassion and education. A nonprofit organization, designed to financially assist in medical emergencies and health care where financial assistance is vital, 4 Paws Love evaluates and qualifies medical emergency applicants. If qualified for assistance, applicants receive partial help with veterinary bills. 4 Paw Love, Inc. receives support from private donors and qualifying grants. Donations are tax deductible. Grant Impact: The impact of the grant would be tremendous. The amount of help we can give to pet owners in need so that they do not need to surrender their pets or look at euthanizing them as their only option in an emergency.

Otsego County Historical Society

(in collaboration with Gaylord Rotary)

Mission: Service above self.

Grant Impact: The grant would be used to place historical markers around Otsego County.

TACKLE FUND – United Way

Mission: To assist Otsego County patients.

Grant Impact: We would be helping cancer patients in Otsego County to ease the financial difficulty caused by their illness.

NMSAS Recovery Center

Mission: It is the mission of NMSAS Recovery Center to assist and guide every person and community in need of substance use disorder services. We will accomplish this mission by developing and maintaining systems that support recovery and by coordinating high quality services. The NMSAS Recovery Center will be welcoming, innovative and cooperative, and will respect the dignity of those who we serve…and those with whom we serve.

Grant Impact: Awarded funds will be utilized in our Peer Recovery Support Services to bring Recovery to the forefront of this community. By offering education and awareness we can end the silence and reduce stigmas that surround addiction, which keep people from seeking help. We will encourage the use and awareness of our website which allows each individual to connect with a Recovery Pathway that aligns with their own individual interests, beliefs and values.
