2017 Otsego County Community Foundation Scholarship Recipients

 The Otsego County Community Foundation would like to recognize the following  local students who received this years scholarships and are pursuing further education. Congratulations on your accomplishments and good luck in reaching your goals. 

 

Athel Eugene and Helen Williams Scholarship (2)($1000): Awarded to a graduating senior pursuing a 4-year nursing or medical degree. Open to any Otsego County graduating student.

Carlie Martella graduated from Gaylord High School. She plans to attend Michigan State University and major in kinesiology.

Claire Huber graduated from Johannesburg-Lewiston High School. She plans to attend University of Michigan

and major in biology.

 

 

GAYLORD SOCCER LEAGUE SCHOLARSHIPS: Awarded to a graduating senior from Gaylord High School. The applicant must be a soccer player from GHS with a minimum GPA of 3.25. Qualified applicants must be entering a college or trade school in the fall of the high school graduating year. Annually, one scholarship for a male will be distributed, in memory of Brandon Brigham and in distributed to a female in memory of Gene Sanders.

Brandon Brigham Memorial Scholarship ($500):

Ethan Book graduated from Gaylord High School. He plans to attend Grand Valley State University and major in pre-med.

Gene Sanders Memorial Scholarship ($500) :

Shelby Baxter graduated from Gaylord High School. She will be attending Aquinas College and will be playing soccer. She plans to major in biology.

Butcher Academic Scholarship ($1000): Awarded in memory of Jesse G. and Violette S. Butcher to a student showing outstanding academic achievement and planning to pursue a bachelor’s degree. One year only. Open to GHS graduating students.

Elizabeth Keysor graduated from Gaylord High School. She plans to attend Michigan Technological University to major in mathematics.

 

Carol Miles Granlund Scholarship($500): Awarded to a graduating senior who has achieved a 3.5 GPA or better, and plans to continue their education at an accredited college or university, to pursue a degree in elementary or secondary education. Open to Gaylord High School graduating students.

Kendyl Jarski graduated from Gaylord High School. She plans to attend Michigan State University and major in elementary education.

Don Skop Memorial Scholarship (2)($500): Awarded to Otsego County high school graduates who have a 2.0 GPA or better and will be attending an accredited institution to continue education in a vocational field or skilled trade. Open to any Otsego County graduating students.

Jacob Smith graduated from Johannesburg-Lewiston High School. He plans to attend Alpena Community College and to become a utility technician.

 

Justen Kwapis graduated from Johannesburg-Lewiston High School. He plans to major in drone mechanics at Northwestern Michigan College.

 

Freel Family Scholarship  ($1500): Awarded to an outstanding student planning to pursue higher education at an accredited institution. This scholarship is needs-based and renewable with reapplication. Open to Gaylord High School graduating students.

Harold and Norma Elgas Reach Scholarship ($500): Awarded to a student who demonstrates financial need. Open to all Otsego County Students.

Alexis Winling graduated from Gaylord High School.  She plans to major in education at North Central Michigan College.

 

 

 

 

Irene Angus Science Scholarship  $1000: Awarded to an outstanding Otsego County  sophomore or junior college student pursuing a BS degree in the science field of study at an accredited institution. Additional consideration may be given to financial need. Scholarship is renewable.

Katie Amar-Fox attends Michigan Technological University and is majoring in material science and engineering.

Kathryn M. Tripp Scholarship ($1000): Awarded in memory of Kathryn M. Tripp, who taught 6th grade in the Gaylord Community School system for 30 years, to a graduating senior planning to earn a degree in Education and enter the teaching profession. Preference will be given to applicants who have displayed leadership, extra-curricular involvement and a commitment to academics. Additional consideration will be given to those who have overcome hardship or adversity and/or demonstrate financial need. Open to Gaylord High School graduating students.

Anna Kalember graduated from Gaylord High School. She plans to attend Central Michigan University to major in speech pathology education.

Katie Krug Youth Volunteerism Scholarship($1000): Awarded to a student who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment of time and effort to volunteerism in our community and is pursuing higher education at a college, university or technical school.  Open to any Otsego County graduating students.

Benjamin Bushong graduated from Gaylord High School . He plans to attend Northern Michigan University to major in outdoor recreation leadership and management.

Louis and Rose Marie Tebbe Scholarship($1000): Awarded to a hard working student.  Preference given to students of military families or those pursuing a medical career. Open to all Otsego County students.

Keely Curran graduated from St. Mary Cathedral High School. She plans to attend Lake Superior State University to major in nursing.

Don and Helen Crandall Scholarship ($500): Awarded to graduating high school senior in Otsego County, who has overcome adversity. Preference given to students pursuing careers in education.

Christian Latuszek graduated from Gaylord High School . He plans to attend Northern Michigan University and major in secondary education.

KYLE CASEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ($1000): Awarded in memory of Kyle Casey , a former Gaylord High School student athlete, to a defensive or offensive lineman with plans to attend an accredited college or trade school. Open to GHS graduating students.

Brendan Krol graduated from Gaylord High School. He plans to attend Michigan State University and major in business.
