Nonprofit Exchange

OCCF is dedicated to increasing the capacity of local nonprofit organizations.  Over the past two years we have been engaging with this group to ask a question that many funders don’t ask and that is “What do you need?”  Of course, funding, access to funding, skills to capture the funding were on the wish list, however other needs included opportunities to connect with other nonprofits, to share with and learn from and simply network.  To meet these needs, we are launching the Nonprofit Exchange (NPX).  The NPX includes

  1. Monthly Coffee Breaks – an hour dedicated to nonprofit networking including open space to mix, mingle and share.  This takes place the second Wednesday of the month (May 9, June 13, July 11, August 8, September 12, October 10, November 14 and December 12), from 8 am – 9 am at the OCCF conference room (316 West Main, park behind the building and enter through courtyard doors).
  2. Virtual Sharing –  opt in to an online group and  to be able to ask questions via email as well as exchange policies, share information and continue to  build relationships with other local professionals in the field.

“We hope this gives nonprofits the chance to connect with one another and strengthen relationships.  Often, we get so focused on our own organizations goals we don’t take the time to see what others are up to.  We have found at the OCCF several organizations are working on similar projects and there is a great opportunity for collaboration.  In addition, we can be resources for each other,  for example I may be going through a situation whether reviewing bylaws, recruiting board members, and you have special training or experience that can help.  We are truly excited for the possibilities that could result from this exchange.”  Dana Bensinger, OCCF Executive Director.

NPX is open to all nonprofits serving Otsego County, including board and staff.  Mark your calendar for the second Wednesday of the month and simply show up for a coffee break, there is no RSVP.   To join the virtual conversation click here.

“Capacity building continues to be at the top of our list and we plan to make additional announcements this spring about other offerings to strengthen this important field.”
