YOUth Care

On the last day of spring, over 50 youth gathered together to learn about youth philanthropy. Youth Advisory Committee President Josh Moody explained the importance of youth having a voice in the community they live in and how YAC has impacted Otsego County by funding projects that affect the youth.

During the event, those in attendance heard from YAC members as they presented three area nonprofits: Kellen Minyon for Otsego County Food Pantry, Hannah Johnston for Otsego County Library, and Sara Daugherty for the Otsego County Child Welfare Alliance. After the presentations, the youth were able to cast their vote for one of these organizations to receive a grant.

While the votes were being counted, Vice-President Anna Torsky showed a video that Elijah Yocum, Noah Snyder and Josh Moody filmed at locations that benefited from the Youth Fund. “The video was both engaging and informative, and gave me a greater perspective of what the YAC does in our community.” stated attendee Brianna Theriault.

After the votes were tallied, the Otsego County Library was the nonprofit chosen to receive $570.00 that afternoon, with the Youth Fund receiving the other $570.00 to grow the field of interest fund for the needs of tomorrow. This was an amazing for the youth, by the youth event.

“I enjoyed the event and thought it was a great opportunity for kids to have a voice in our community. I was so engaged, I have submitted a membership application to join this group.” said Hailey Zack. If you would like to know more or become a YAC member please click here.
