At the 2023 100+ Women Who Care event, the $3,000 grant was awarded to the Northern Michigan Children’s Assessment Center. Since its inception in 2016, $125,000 in grants have been awarded to local nonprofits at the 100+ WWC events. This one-hour, real-time event is an example of community-driven philanthropy.

We asked NMCAC Founder and Executive Director Rebecca Yunker to report on her experience with the OCF 100+ WWC event and as a grant recipient.

Here is what she had to say:

How did you use the $3,000 grant from the 100+ WWC?

The grant was used to support the services we provide to Otsego County children and families. NMCAC received 51 new referrals in 2023 for children residing in Otsego County. This included providing 172 advocacy services and 69 mental health services. Four cases were prosecuted in the criminal courts during the year, and offenders were held accountable for their actions.

Funds were used to provide these families with gas cards to assist in overcoming any barriers they may have to receiving services. Funds were also used to purchase therapy supplies, parenting information, and outreach materials for Otsego County families and community members.

What does it mean to be chosen for this grant?

It was a great honor to be chosen for this grant. Not only for the financial support we received to assist us in providing services to children and families but also for the awareness it brought to the community.

What would you tell other Otsego County nonprofits about participating in this event?

I would encourage other nonprofits to participate in this great event–not only for the chance to be awarded a financial donation but also to network and highlight the services that all non-profits provide the community.

Please register here if you want to participate in this year’s event. Once you have registered, you may nominate a nonprofit organization that serves Otsego County here.  Recipients of community-driven philanthropy grants in 2022 and 2023 are ineligible for this year’s event. Those organizations are Gaylord Last Resort, 1st Congregational Church Community Meal Program, State Trooper Outreach Partnership Gaylord Chapter (STOP), Northern Michigan Children’s Assessment Center, and 22 2 None.

We hope to see you there!
