December Volunteer Spotlight–Joe Lawless

Dec 1, 2024 | All News, Volunteer Spotlights

Extreevaganza season is upon us, so it is fitting that our December Volunteer Spotlight shines on the incomparable Joe Lawless. This year, Joe is Extreevaganza co-chair with Janet Nowicki. He has been a part of Extreevaganza for four years. The OCF’s annual holiday event would not be as fun, festive, or successful without all the hard work of Joe and the other Extreevaganza ambassadors and volunteers. Joe has been a part of the Gaylord community for 7 years, having moved here for his now husband, Don Smith. Originally from Gladwin, MI, Joe went to Cosmetology school in Mount Pleasant. He has created a successful career for himself as a Stylist and Educator at Bliss Salon and Spa. Recently, he opened a small seasonal greenhouse on a new property in Otsego County that he shares with Don.

Here is Joe in his own words.

What do you love most about Otsego County?

What I love most about Otsego County is the feeling of community and the opportunity for growth.

What are your hopes for the future of Otsego County?

I hope Otsego County continues to grow and expand while keeping the community and families a top priority. I hope Otsego County becomes the place where families dream of raising their kids and building their careers or business.

What are you looking forward to working with the OCF?

My relationship with the OCF has grown over the past 4 years, because giving my time to the OCF has allowed me to give back to the community that welcomed me with open arms 7 years ago. The community that gave me the opportunity to have the successful career I have been able build. I know my time volunteering to the OCF will have a lasting impact on the community for years to come.

Thank you, Joe, for sharing your time, energy, and talents with the OCF and Otsego County!
