T.A.C.K.L.E. Race Goes Virtual

Jul 6, 2020 | All News

T.A.C.K.L.E knows firsthand that cancer knows no bounds, it has no mercy and will slow down for nothing, including a global pandemic. Even though we were disappointed that our 6th Annual 5K Color Tour slated for April 25th had to be postponed due to COVID-19, we have continued to fight cancer one color at a time, focusing our efforts to provide safety and comfort to Otsego county cancer patients.

Through these trying times, the T.A.C.K.L.E. transport van managed by the Otsego County United Way has continued to run without interruption, getting Otsego county cancer patients to their much needed appointments at no expense. Our team of amazing volunteers have worked tirelessly to provide our passengers with safe transportation, a welcoming smile (although often unseen due to masks), a warm heart and listening ear to ease the burden of fighting their toughest battle. Through the support of our amazing sponsors and supporters during the COVID-19 pandemic, over the past three months the T.A.C.K.L.E. Fund of the Otsego Community Foundation has still been able to provide assistance directly to Otsego county cancer patients experiencing financially catastrophic situations. Patients receive utility and housing assistance while they undergo treatment because of a $2,000 grant to the Oncology Patient Assistance Program from McLaren Northern Michigan. T.A.C.K.L.E. was also able to grant the Munson Healthcare Otsego Memorial Hospital Oncology Assistance Fund with $2,000 to assist Otsego county patients undergoing treatment at OMH and experiencing financial hardships with housing, utility, and personal need assistance as a result of battling cancer during a time of pandemonium.

We are determined to T.A.C.K.L.E. cancer no matter what it takes, and as such we are excited to announce our new plans for the 6th Annual 5K Color Tour. In a time of uncertainty, T.A.C.K.L.E. has decided to keep our focus on the health and well-being of our participants by spreading love and compassion, not germs. We intend to run with purpose and determination toward a common goal, but a different finish line in 2020. T.A.C.K.L.E. cancer wherever you are because TOGETHER we can do anything, even when 6 feet apart.
