Tuesday, May 19th brought a beautiful, if breezy, spring day to downtown Gaylord—perfect for propping the doors open at North Life Church and letting in some fresh air as guests arrived. The light movement of the wind outside set the tone for an evening that felt relaxed and welcoming from the start.
Women began arriving just after 5:00 PM, umbrellas in hand, greeted by friendly faces and a shared sense of purpose. As they filtered in, they connected with nine nominated nonprofits, each sharing their mission and offering a glimpse into the meaningful work happening across our community. Conversations filled the room as attendees moved from table to table, learning, asking questions, and discovering new ways lives are being changed right here in Otsego County.

Guests also enjoyed handcrafted mocktails from Phoenix Pour, generously sponsored by Toni Straughen of Edward Jones—a thoughtful touch that added a sense of fun and hospitality to the evening.
At exactly 6:00 PM, the program began with a warm welcome from Lori Lancaster of Nicolet Bank, setting the tone for a powerful hour ahead.
Renee Elias and Allison Boatman, representing the 100+ Women Who Care 2025 $5,000 grant recipient AAUW, then took the stage—not just to speak, but to remind everyone why this event matters. They shared the impact of the AAUW “Future of STEM Road Trip,” where 7th and 8th grade girls from Otsego County traveled to Michigan State University for a day of hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, and math. For many of those students, it was more than a field trip—it was a glimpse into new possibilities and futures they hadn’t yet imagined.
Their message grounded the evening in something bigger: real people, real impact, and real change made possible through collective generosity.
Then came the heart of the evening.
Four names were drawn at random, and each representative stepped forward to share their story:
Jacki Baron – Communities In Schools
Judi Doan – Kiwanis Club of Gaylord
Kassi McComb – Gaylord Youth Instructional Football
Darla Edwards – Foster Care Regional Resource Team
Each speaker had just a few minutes—but that was all it took. They spoke with passion and authenticity, sharing their missions, the needs they see every day, and the difference community support makes. They also answered thoughtful questions from the audience, deepening understanding and connection.
The diversity of these organizations reflected the many layers of need within our community—and the many ways people are stepping up to meet them. Even for the nonprofits not selected to present, the evening offered something invaluable: exposure, connection, and the opportunity to be seen and supported.
When the votes were cast and counted, anticipation filled the room. Next, the winners were announced...

In just one hour, 130 women came together to create meaningful, immediate impact—supporting organizations that will continue to strengthen our community in the months ahead.
So much was accomplished in such a short time. One hour. One room. One shared purpose. And yet, the ripple effect will be felt far beyond that evening.
As the event came to a close, the weather had shifted to a colder, rainy, and windier night. But inside, the atmosphere couldn’t have been warmer. The energy, inspiration, and connection built throughout the evening lingered with guests as they stepped back out into the elements—a reminder that when women come together with intention and generosity, incredible things happen.
To every woman who attended, gave, asked questions, and showed up fully—thank you. Because of you, lives are being impacted. Because of you, our community is stronger. Together, we can do more for the community we love.

Behind the scenes, this event is powered by an incredible group of women who bring it to life. From our co-chairs Heather Appold and Toni Straughen, to our voices on the air Katie Drzewiecki and Sheila Simpson, and our dedicated community connectors who continue to widen this circle—Liz Forrieder, Mary Tomaski, Lori Hewitt, Rebecca Brown, Melissa Noa, and Mandy Bolen—each of you plays a vital role. Your passion, energy, and commitment are what make 100+ Women Who Care so impactful, and we are deeply grateful.
A special thank you to Celeste Lovely Photography for capturing the energy, connection, and unforgettable moments of the evening.
We can’t wait to do it all again. 100+ Women Who Care returns in 2027—stay tuned for details and start thinking about who you’ll bring with you.
