This month, the Otsego Community Foundation is proud to shine a light on someone whose commitment to community, generosity of spirit, and thoughtful leadership make a meaningful difference—Rob Lampert, our April Foundation Matters Volunteer Spotlight. A Gaylord native who found his way back home after time away, Rob brings a deep love for Northern Michigan and a passion for philanthropy to everything he does. Whether he’s contributing his talents on the Governance Committee, fostering connections across the county, or simply enjoying the beauty of the place he calls home, Rob embodies the values that help our community thrive.

Get to know Rob, what inspires him, and his hopes for Otsego County in the Q&A below.

1. Tell us a little about yourself.

I grew up in Gaylord and graduated from Gaylord High in 2007. After graduating from Purdue University and then living in the Grand Rapids area, I was excited to move back to Gaylord in 2019. I work at Sojourn Lakeside Resort on Dixon Lake.

Of all the benefits of coming home, what I am most grateful for is meeting my wife (who also grew up in Gaylord) after we both moved back up north. Some of my hobbies include golfing, skiing, baking, and playing live music (let me know if you’d like to jam sometime!)

2. What do you love most about living in Otsego County?

The natural beauty of Northern Michigan is hard to beat! I am grateful to be part of a community that prioritizes kindness and impactful action. There are opportunities to branch out and meet others, to work hard and grow, or to slow down and take a breath.

3. When you think about the future, what are your hopes for our community?

As this community grows and becomes more prosperous due to the hard work and imagination of many people, my hope is that our community maintains its personality and continues to evolve into a place where all who call it home can have a great sense of pride.

4. What inspired you to volunteer with OCF, and what are you most excited about in your role?

My interest in philanthropy started with my parents, who always encouraged and promoted volunteerism. I appreciated the opportunity to speak with Dana and learn about her vision for the OCF, and I have enjoyed watching the foundation evolve over time. I joined the Governance Committee in 2025, and I am excited to see how the foundation is progressing and how new initiatives and grants are impacting the community.
