We are excited to highlight Alex Hughes in our OCF Volunteer Spotlight. Alex is part of the Grant Committee and has served for three years. He is originally from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and moved to Otsego County in December of 2008 after being hired by Kevin McKinley at Treetops Resort and has lived here ever since. He and his wife, Kristin Hughes, have two children—George, 17 and Erin, 11. An avid golfer, Alex loves being outside and involved with sports. He also loves spending time with his wife and kids. Since 2010, Alex has coached boys’ basketball at Gaylord St. Mary’s and Gaylord High School. Being involved with and helping Otsego County youth is important to Alex. So is his job. Alex loves working at Feeny Ford in Grayling as a Sales and Leasing Consultant because he gets to match his customers with their perfect vehicle, which makes them happy.

To learn more about Alex, here he is in his own words:

1.What do you love about Otsego County?

I love being in a small, tight-knit community where there are many different people involved in what they do. It’s great for me to see a community come together like we do. Case in point–when the tornado came through Gaylord.

2. What are your hopes for Otsego County?

I just want this county to keep prospering and making sure more people get involved to help their community. If they think they can help, then more people need to get involved. I always make sure to tell people to go out and help. Try to get involved with OCF or other organizations in the community to give back to where they live and work.

3. What are you looking forward to working with the OCF?

I just enjoy being part of the OCF and giving back to this wonderful community that I’m part of and keep on learning more and more about our community.
